The Fourth of July is approaching.

Cue music: “This is America.”

Despite your views on the current state of this country, this day is a day that many will spend with friends and family in fellowship with food and fun and…(insert an F word for drinks)!

Your uncle has the grill on lock and your auntie got the potato salad covered. You haven’t quite mastered the family recipe yet because it just always seems easier to order Seamless or join your friends for a night out.We get it and that’s why we have the perfect recommendation that will make you look like the fun one of the family. For this Fourth of July, add some pop to the festivities with this fun and easy Jell-O shot recipe:

Feeling extra festive? Put the Jell-O mix in star-shaped molds. Photo by Jell-O.

Ingredients:

  • Jell-O
  • Pop Rocks – which can be found at Party City
  • Prosecco (or non-alcoholic sparkling cider or ginger ale)
  • Your spirit of choice for extra kick
  • Simple syrup – simply mix sugar and warm water
  • Plastic shot glasses (or plastic ramekins)

Instructions:

  • Follow the recipe on the Jell-O box, but replace the cold water with the Prosecco and spirit
  • Because we have altered recipe, allow a little extra time for the Jell-O to set
  • Once the Jell-O is set, apply the Pop Rocks rim:
    • Gently dip the rim of the shot glass into the simple syrup to cover just the very top of the glass
    • Then dip the rim into Pop Rocks
    • Note: You can also simply sprinkle the Pop Rocks on top of the shot right before serving.
  • Enjoy responsibly!

We promise this recipe is easy for anyone to make, and you can make it your own with a variety of Jell-O flavors and spirits. For a kid friendly option try using soda or a fruit juice. And don’t just reserve this recipe for America’s birthday, Jell-O shots are fitting for so many occasions including New Year’s Eve, bridal parties and birthdays. So, feel free to rinse, remix and repeat!
