H-Town, coming, coming downnn! After spending five days in Houston, I finally see why Bey reps her home city so hard. Aside from the beautiful men and turn up brunches, the food and drinks in Houston are enough to keep you busy while visiting. I also recommend taking a stroll through some of the parks in downtown Houston, so many photo opportunities! If you’re planning on going to H-town anytime soon, here are some spots that you have to check out.
For Cocktails:
Wooster’s Garden, 3315 Miliam Street. Houston, TX 77006
While in Houston, I met up with a coworker who raved about the drinks at Wooster’s. I personally loved how their menu was broken down by the type of cocktail such as sour and tart, spicy, bitter and sweet, tropical, etc. It made it easy for me to narrow down on what I wanted, as their cocktail menu is huge and can be overwhelming. I tried the Booze Cruise which was bourbon, gin, cognac and a bunch of other things. They also set it on fire before serving it. I love how each of their cocktails was made in a unique way. Some had fire, some flowers, some came in skull mugs, and others just had amazing presentation. Do yourself a favor and go here when you visit Houston, you will not regret. Visit them here
For Dinner:
The Ritual, 1729, 602 Studewood St, Houston, TX 77007
One of my favorite meals in Houston came from this delicious Southern restaurant. The ritual has all of your Houston needs wrapped up in one restaurant. They also serve brunch, but I highly recommend going for dinner so you can thoroughly enjoy the food. The Angry Bird (chicken breast with a cornbread waffle) will leave your stomach and heart equally full and happy. Make sure you pair your dinner with one of their beer flights featuring some Texan beer.
For a quick bite:
The Burger Joint, 2703 Montrose Boulevard. Houston, TX 77006
It’s been four months since my H-town trip, and I am still drooling over The Burger Joint. This cute burger spot is the ideal place to grab a burger to go or sit down in their outside patio and take in the deliciousness. They have a menu that is full of different types of burgers, and also some hot dogs. I went with the classic burger with fries and it was delicious! And don’t you dare skip the French fries, which were so good I finished them in my Uber home.
For brunch:
Bar 5015, 5015 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77004
When asking about places to brunch in Houston, this place was mentioned several times for their Sunday brunch. During brunch, a catering group Etta’s Kitchen is actually providing the food, so if someone mentions Etta’s for brunch, just know this is where they mean. The menu was pretty short and could’ve used a few more options. However, the oxtail and grits entrée was large and flavorful, and had the addition of creamed collard greens which was a first for me. This place had a DJ and turns into a little day party, so I recommend getting there early or expect to wait on a table. BONUS: Get the blood orange mimosa, it’s definitely one of the best I’ve ever had.
For the Gram:
The Breakfast Klub, 3711 Travis St, Houston, TX 77002
Everyone and their mama will tell you to visit the Breakfast Klub when you go to Houston. It’s southern style breakfast food and is a Houston staple. First thing to note is there will be a line, possibly wrapped around the block, so be prepared to wait. I believe my wait was about 45 minutes to reach the door. Next, once you order at the counter, you get a number and have to find seating on your own. I found it fairly easy to snag a table just for me, but if you’re in a group it may be harder. Some of their well know dishes are the fried catfish and grits and their chicken and waffles. While I wasn’t a huge fan of this spot, it could be a personal taste thing and so I recommend it for anyone who loves good ole southern food.
For a Day Party:
The Address, 3333 Raleigh St, Houston, TX 77021
I stumbled across this spot while searching Eventbrite for places to go on Saturday or Sunday. This spot has discounted drink specials during the day party, as well as hookah all day. The DJ was bumping the southern classics, as well as some other songs to get the crowd jumping. Around six it becomes super packed and I didn’t leave until almost 9 p.m., at which point it was turning into a night function. This was probably one of my favorite Houston memories because it really was that lit. Make sure you go there after brunch and turn up.
If I listed every must try spot in Houston, I would run out of space! So just go and enjoy all the beauty and deliciousness that Houston has to offer. If you’ve already been, what are some of your must-visit spots? Drop it in the comments below.
