Last week, I had the urge to go for Jamaican cuisine. When these urges arise, I have to go full out! Stopping at my local Golden Crust or Jerk Hut isn’t going to satisfy me. I need the full experience so I headed over to The Door to get my fix. I haven’t been there in over a year, and since then the place has been renovated. When you walk in, you are greeted by a full bar, television, and a wall waterfall. I waited for 30 minutes in this area to be seated but they had the World Cup on so the time flew by.
I love when restaurants have fresh flowers on the table as it adds to the ambiance. As soon as I sat down, I was offered a roll of bread. I prefer my bread hot but nevertheless I ate it. I had the option of either soup or salad as a complimentary starter and chose the fish soup. I balanced the hot soup with my cold refreshing Jamaican Delight rum cocktail. When my food arrived, my mouth watered over my curry shrimp, vegetables, plantain, and rice & peas. When your side dish isn’t taking up space on your main plate and has its own separate bowl, that is when you know the restaurant desires to fill you up.
You all know that service is key! My waitress was nice but could have been more attentive. The seating area she covered wasn’t that vast so I would have appreciated more attention especially since I was dining alone. The greeters at the front door also weren’t friendly, I asked about prices for having a private party and received answers as if my business wasn’t wanted. I would have appreciated if she offered me the contact of someone who could give me more information on pricing and the details that would need to be discussed.
Overall the food was amazing and that is what counts the most! You can head here for a date or if you want to grab some food by yourself and don’t want to dine alone, they have a carryout spot right next door!
