August is usually the hottest month of summer and what’s the best way to cool down on one of those upcoming scorching days? Ice cream! But quiet as it’s kept, ice cream is good year round!
Food Before Love has a round up of some of the best places the city has to offer.
Ample Hills Creamery
623 Vanderbilt Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238 (Brooklyn Location)
There’s no excuse not to try this infamous spot with multiple locations around the city and in New Jersey! I visited one of the Brooklyn locations which had an atmosphere perfect for families with children. The shop featured rocking horses and sand tables and also played Biggie and old school R&B. Basically, it’s a place for everyone. The Ooey Gooey Butter Cake—a creamy vanilla flavor with chunks of St. Louis style Ooey Gooey butter cake—absolutely lives up to the hype.
Ample Hills also serves Lemon Sky, a refreshing vegan sorbet with ginger, lemon juice and limoncello. It’s perfect for those whose bodies may not love ice cream as much as they do.
Tipsy Scoop
217 E 26th St, New York, NY 10010
If you’re looking to add a little more excitement to your dessert, Tipsy Scoop is where you need to go! This ice cream “barlour” infuses their ice cream and sorbet with bourbon, vodka, rum, sangria and tequila!
It is a compact space so sitting down to enjoy your spiked treat might be a little hard given their establishment is usually pretty packed. Be sure to bring your ID if you wish to get an alcohol infused scoop! Tipsy Scoop also offers non alcoholic flavors and all of their year round flavors are gluten free with the exception of one, Chocolate Stout and Salty Pretzel.
-321º Ice Cream Shop
288 Grand St, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Looking for an Instagram worthy experience? Go to -321º Ice Cream Shop. This ice cream parlor transforms their frozen treats by adding a bit of science. Once temperatures reach -321º (hence the name) liquid nitrogen is created.
When you place your order you won’t see the servers digging into a carton of ice cream because each customer’s request is made to order. The down side to that is no samples are available but my server was great at suggesting a flavor that I might enjoy and he was correct! The smoothly textured and custard like consistency was a delight on a hot sticky day!
Cones
272 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10014
Cones is a Food Before Love favorite and still one of our must try places. Their handmade Argentina style ice cream is offered in an array of flavors. From the classic vanilla and chocolate to the decadent tiramisu to a more exotic Yerba maté (a South American tea), you have options! Each flavor of ice cream is made in just 20 pound batches to ensure the freshest ingredients are used. And the best part, samples are unlimited!
Are you an ice cream fanatic always on the hunt for where to get your next scoop? We got you.
