Vendy Plaza

If you’re into food options galore, Vendy Plaza comes to you as a Smorgasburg of Harlem. Foodies of New York can now add Vendy Plaza to their Sunday schedules, as the renowned food fair has returned for Summer 2016 with a delicious line up of 17 local street foods. The weekly event will be held at East Harlem’s historic open-air market place, La Marqueta, beginning May 1st and continuing each Sunday from 12-6pm through October.

Spearheaded by City Council Speaker Mark-Viverito with intentions of bringing new life to the iconic east harlem landmark, Vendy Plaza comes back to La Marqueta Retoña for the third year in a row, because obviously, third time’s a charm. Food Before Love Founder Cassandra Rosario, steps in as the new project manager this year with promises to continue the legacy and provide a platform for the best this city has to offer.

“Vendy Plaza is the embodiment of the growing and flourishing street food movement in New York City and across the country,” said Rosario. “This season we are showcasing some of the best local talent and emerging culinary innovations at East Harlem’s iconic La Marqueta, which has long been a community and cultural landmark. I look forward to continuing the legacy and the revitalization of this storied market, as well as providing a platform for the public to appreciate the best New York City vendors have to offer”.

The extensive line up of food vendors will include both locals and Vendy Award winners, and treat lovers can head over to Sprinkle Splash Sweet Shoppe to satisfy their sweet tooth. Sounds inspired by El Barrio’s Puerto Rican and Latino identity will be provided along with ice cold beer from the Brooklyn Brewery.
