Hydration is important to keep our bodies healthy and functioning at its peak. A well-hydrated body aids in beautiful hair, skin, and nails.

Here are three ways to stay hydrated this summer:

1. Eat More Raw Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables contain pure water. No need for fancy filtration systems when hydrating your body using raw fruits and vegetable. Cucumbers, green peppers, and tomatoes all have water contents above 90%. If fruit is more your thing then cantaloupe, watermelon, and strawberries will quench your thirst. If you’re feeling a bit exotic then try dragon fruit. It tastes delicious and its water content is 90%. Fruits and vegetables are an awesome source for hydration because they also contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Think of it as nature’s vitamin water.

2. Try Coconut Water

Coconut water contains natural electrolytes to quench your thirst and fuel your body. The dose of potassium coconut water contains will keep your energy levels up. Coconut water is great after a workout of the perfect pick me up drink. Raw, unpasteurized coconut water tastes the best. My favorite bottled brand is Harmless Harvest Coconut Water. Harmless Harvest can be found at many grocery stores including Whole Foods Market and Fairway.

3. Reduce Sodium Intakes

A high sodium diet dehydrates the body. Sodium is an essential nutrient for the body but must be used in moderation. Try Pink Himalayan Salt because of its lower sodium content when compared to table, kosher, or sea salt. Pink Himalayan Salt also retains a majority of its nutrients due to the minimal processing. Plus it makes your food look pretty. You can pick up Pink Himalayan Salt at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods Market.
