American Roadhouse Philly
,

Considering I got food poisoning in Atlanta at the daiquiri factory (good drinks, bad food), I surprised myself by posting this. Anyway, I hope my opinion isn’t biased because I was then malnourished and had worked up a huge appetite. I came alive the following day though, fully recovered with brunch on my mind and a list of places to go and eat.

My friend Faizah and I opted for American Roadhouse here in Atlanta, we found a groupon deal right before we walked in and it made everything much better. I thought everything is done bigger in Texas, but sheesh! The portions here were out of control.

I ordered the chili fries which could have easily fed four people properly but it was all for me. These (perfect) fries came with beef and jalapeños on top, spicy as ever. I was filled with delicious regret because I had already orded the Philly cheese steak. Had I not been so overwhelmed by it all, I could have finished it.

Okay, let me say this. My friend Faizah only had two bites of her Philly and was instantly full. I hadn’t eaten in 24 hours, I was hoping and praying the same wouldn’t happen to me. I made it to three huge bites…but they were fabulous!

The American Roadhouse’s Philly cheese steak fits right into my top 5 all time best. Only Lord knows why I got fruit on the side because I was already being fat, but it was fresh and sweet and just what I needed to recover. Any who, I was told to go there for brunch and I went. Would I go again? Yes, and next time I’m definitely drinking.

Steak and Shake Milkshakes
,

Why aren’t there more of these everywhere?

I can’t believe I’ve been busy eating McDonald’s when I had this right in the heart of the city. But I have to thank my friends in Atlanta for this one, where steak and shake is EVERYWHERE. They need to replace shake shack for this (though I love it there too)

The Steak and Shake in Atlanta is like a restaurant, and not just another burger spot. The service is pleasant, southern hospitality at its best.

Steak and Shake Milkshakes

I had a double steak burger considering it’s so thin, with pickles, lettuce and fried onions. I hate onions with a passion but fried onions were made by God himself. They remind me of school trips as a child when you would put your chips in a sandwich for lunch.

Hands down, this is in the top 5 burger I ever had, and the milkshakes! The milkshakes here are HUGE, I could hardly finish mine. I had the strawberry flavored one in Atlanta and the Oreo one in New York. I can’t get enough of this place. I believe it’s in the midtown west, pay them a visit if you love some good food!

Salmon with Lobster Mashed Potatoes

Food and Happiness are one in the same. Don’t debate me.

Calle Ocho. It was an early Father’s Day dinner for Dad. Delightful! Located on 81st and Columbus Avenue, I’m eternally grateful to my brunch loving friend, Omari, for discovering this gem. The ambiance is sexy; dimmed lights, vibrant but soft colors and most of all, welcoming air consumes you as you walk in. I was ready for a treat, already impressed.

The bread rolls were the perfect kind of small, enough not to ruin your appetite. The warmth of them went great against the cold bean paste provided. I was skeptical of the paste but it hardly tasted like anything, the consistency won me over, it was different. Deciding quickly, my dad had the Arroz Con Pollo (rice and chicken) with an Avocado Guacamole on the side. He claimed this to be “the best rice he’s ever had”, and I must admit it was very well seasoned. The Guacamole was soft and didn’t overpower the meal, with the chicken being just enough for it all. The presentation was lovely and the service was rapid, this is a gem for real.

Salmon with Lobster Mashed Potatoes

I had the Salmon, medium rare with lobster mashed potatoes and a mango/pineapple chutney. Our waiter recommended it and I made sure to thank him later because it was amazing. The salmon was so soft and full of flavor, I could taste the ocean. I love it when seafood is that fresh. The mashed potatoes had chunks of lobster and peppers, and they tasted great against the pineapples which were sweet and had me swooning. Have you ever swooned over food? Yes. It was that good.

And then for dessert, my dad had the passion fruit sorbet which was as rich as ever, he asked for the vendor so he could have it forever but we found out the chef makes it at home! Homemade and authentic, always a plus! I had the domino cake which was dark chocolate with peanut butter mousse and ice cream. I hardly tasted the peanut butter and I didn’t care, as it was very good.

Domino Cake

Did i forget the Sangria? Spanish Harlem, where both my father and I were born and raised. We couldn’t pass up the Sangria by that name on the menu. Highly recommended. We ordered a pitcher, well, we sort of didn’t but I’m not complaining. It was cool, calm even without being too strong but more so just right and it helped me make my father’s day dinner so special, guaranteeing that I’ll be back.
